Will You Marry Me?

Josh Anderson • Strafford, NH

After a late Friday night arrival in Vail for a ski trip with Meghan and her family, we got up Saturday morning ready to ski. Before we went out the door, Meghan tried to tuck my license in my inside jacket pocket right where I had hidden an engagement ring! I said something brilliant like, “I hate that pocket, don’t put my license there.” She just looked at me strangely like, how can you hate a pocket?

We met up with Meghan’s best friend Melissa, and her family and skied all morning. After lunch in the lodge, we headed back out to the slopes. I was ready to put my plan—suggested by my future father-in-law—into action.  Despite the cold, my hands were sweaty. I headed to the “Glades” trail through the woods—it took some serious convincing to get Meghan to join me. She finally skied over to me at which point I took off one ski, got down on my knee, and proposed at 10,000 feet!

Melissa, who did not know about the plan, had skied on. She was waiting at the bottom of the trail, worried we had gotten hurt. When we skied down to her, Meg slipped off her mitten and flashed her ring. Huge hugs and a celebratory round of drinks followed. It was awesome!
