I didn’t know when or where I was going to propose to Darin, but I wanted it to be dark and along the Seine. The city was in all its glory—lights everywhere, street musicians performing, lovers nestled in corners, families enjoying a late night crepe. As we walked from bridge to bridge, we came to Pont Neuf, the magnificent old bridge connecting the Ile de L’Cite to the mainland. Crossing under, my heart started to pound as the moment drew closer. I nudged Darin toward a quiet corner near the river. I then got on my knee and fumbled through my bag for the big red box containing the Cartier watch. I stuck to my script and popped the question, “Will you allow me to take care of your heart forever?” He stared with those loving eyes welling up with salty tears and said “you know.” I insisted that he answer, and he said “yes!”
