After connecting on match.com, Fallon and Bill met for a drink in April 2009. Although she was initially skeptical about online dating, the pair hit it off instantly. An in-person meeting for a quick drink turned into a five-hour conversation that ended only because the bar closed. By October, Bill was spreading a blanket for a picnic, uncorking a bottle of wine, reciting a love letter he crafted, and asking Fallon to marry him. “It just felt right,” she says.

A mutual love of tennis enticed Martha Ehrenfeld and Carla McKay to the courts as doubles partners. These first-rate players “became a gold medal couple,” states their faux New York Times wedding announcement, after having won silver in Chicago and gold in Berlin, Germany, in doubles tennis in the Gay Games, a gathering similar to the Olympics.
The couple married a week before the Fourth of July at Cambridge City Hall in Massachusetts, where same-sex marriage is recognized, then hosted a multi-faceted, multi-cultural (guests hailed from several countries), three-day celebration including a repeat ceremony over the holiday weekend at Martha’s hometown, Round Pond, near Damariscotta, Maine.
Carla, who hails from Washington, D.C., reveals that her most savored moment was at the Round Pond ceremony, where Martha’s parents and younger sister were married. “I looked up and saw everyone I love in this special, meaningful location and I felt so happy.”
