Nicole Decato and Ross Dimarco
Kennebunk, ME, October 18, 2008

By Cheryl Kimball

Nicole and Ross DiMarco have known each other since high school and have been having great fun together ever since—including at their wedding! “We have a lot of fun in general,” says Nicole, “but we never had had so much fun as our wedding.”

Both the 1pm ceremony, in St Martha’s Church in Kennebunk, and the reception after at Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport, were formal. But once the sit-down dinner was over, the dancing began.

“Everyone danced,” says Nicole. “There was not a person sitting down.”

Since bride and groom live in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, much of the Maine coast wedding needed to be planned long distance. This proved to be not a huge deal. Nicole felt that it was even better, that the few times she did go to Maine for a three-day weekend to work on the wedding planning, she could focus on just that. And her resources were extremely helpful.

Why Maine?

“My mom is from Bangor, my dad’s family is from Kennebunk. I grew up outside Boston. When we decided to get married, there was no question that the wedding would be on the south coast of Maine somewhere.”

The fall time frame made it easier to get guests to make the trip. “A lot of people stayed the weekend,” says Nicole, “and took trips after like to Bar Harbor. Many of them went back to vacation in Maine this year too.”

Back in Pittsburgh, Nicole’s profession is in bridal stationery. The company she works for, “More Than Words,” did her invitations and the wine bottle labels. She was pleased that her
family and friends in Maine could see this aspect of her life.

Nicole and Ross’s wedding combined traditional with some whimsy. While they had a sit-down dinner with the classic head table, the cake was huge cupcakes. Place cards were strung on vines decorated with sea-inspired items like starfish. Nicole’s strapless floor-length gown was topped off with a classic headpiece with veil. “I found the headpiece first and fell in love with it.” The gown came after, both being bought in Pittsburgh.

The wedding even brushed with Celebrity. “While I was doing a trial run of my makeup and hair at Studio 41 in Kennebunkport, Barbara Bush was there having her nails done. The Secret Service was outside.”

And, while Nicole could not claim this was a result of her perfect planning, it included a perfect Maine fall day—super sunny, a little nippy but not cold, and the foliage was at prime color.
